The .kw extension, introduced in the year 1992, is the official Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Kuwait. The Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), commissioned by the Ministry of Communications, has the sole responsibility for the management and registration of .kw domain name in Kuwait.
To ensure that .kw registration services remain relatively straightfoward, effective and uninterrupted, the KISR follows a simple registration process and uses only state-of-the-art equipment and information systems. The registration of .kw domain is open only to Kuwaiti citizens, companies, and organizations. The Kuwait top level domain name system has the following categories:
- .edu.kw : For academic and research institutions
- .com.kw : For commercial entities and individuals
- .net.kw : For commercial entities and individuals
- .org.kw : For non-profit organizations
- .gov.kw : For government entities
To register a .kw domain name, an individual must submit a copy of his or her identification card and a brief paragraph stating his or her intention to register the domain name. In the case of non profit, commercial and academic entities, a formal request, certified with official signature and seal, must be forwarded by the manager. Additionally, each of these entities has to produce a valid certificate from their concerned agency stating their involvement with the agency and their field of practice. For government entities, a letter must be directed from the Minister's or Public Relation Office. |
